Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A toilet mirror, also known as a dressing mirror, is a small portable tabletop mirror designed to sit upon a chest of drawers, dressing table, or desk. Emerging in the late seventeenth century and gaining prominence throughout the Georgian period, these mirrors typically combine an adjustable glass plate with a small box base housing drawers for personal grooming accessories.

Georgian toilet mirrors were predominantly crafted from native hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and oak, often finished with detailed veneers like burr walnut or feather banding. Hardware typically comprised cast brass drop handles, small escutcheons, and turned wooden or metal knobs, with silvered glass plates set into timber frames.

Authentic George I examples generally feature warm walnut timbers, crossbanded borders, and arched or double-domed frame tops. Additional indicators include hand-dovetailed drawer construction, original mercury glass with gentle foxing, small brass drop handles, and minor signs of natural timber shrinkage consistent with eighteenth-century craftsmanship.

In contemporary interiors, a tabletop toilet mirror functions effectively as a decorative accent piece placed atop a hallway console, a dining room sideboard, or a bedroom chest of drawers. Positioning the timber piece against simplified, modern wall colours allows its historic patina and carved profile to contrast cleanly with surrounding decor.

To preserve the original patination, dust the timber regularly with a clean, dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish sparingly once or twice a year. Avoid solvent-based cleaners, excess moisture, and direct sunlight or proximity to radiators, which can cause the timber veneer to dry out or crack.
