Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Early twentieth-century artists frequently explored figurative form through truncated torsos, drawing inspiration from classical antiquity as well as modernist abstraction. These pieces emphasise pure geometric contour, material grain, and human anatomy without the narrative distraction of limbs or facial features.

Sculptors utilised dense hardwoods such as walnut, oak, mahogany, or fruitwood, selected for structural stability and pronounced grain patterns. The process involved hand-chiselling from a single solid block, followed by smoothing with rasps and finishing with natural wax or oil to highlight the timbers natural texture.

Authentic period pieces display age-appropriate surface patination, subtle gouge marks from hand carving, and natural timber movement or fine shrinkage cracks. Inspection of the base often reveals hand-tool marks and uneven wear consistent with manual craftsmanship rather than modern machine reproduction.

Position the sculpture as a focal point on a low credenza, sideboard, or plinth against a neutral wall to draw attention to its silhouette. Combining organic timber tones with contemporary minimalism creates a clear contrast between traditional sculpture and modern architecture.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid placing the object near direct heat sources or direct sunlight to prevent timber splitting. Periodically apply a clear, high-quality beeswax polish using a soft cloth to preserve the moisture and natural lustre of the wood finish.
