Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

German horology gained international prestige in the 19th century, particularly within the Saxon town of Glashutte. Makers established rigorous standards of craftsmanship, introducing three-quarter plates, precise regulation systems, and high-grade enamel dials that set a benchmark for mechanical timekeeping.

High-grade pocket watches from this era typically feature cases crafted from 18ct solid yellow gold. Dials were made using fired vitreous enamel on copper plates, complemented by heat-blued steel hands and precision mechanical movements containing synthetic or natural ruby jewels.

Authenticity is verified through movement markings, dial signatures, and case gold hallmarks. Original pieces typically feature maker-specific inscriptions on the dial and cuvette, along with distinct serial numbers matching the movement to the case.

While originally designed as personal horological items, pocket watches are frequently displayed under miniature glass cloches, placed on brass watch stands upon a desk, or styled within shadow-box frames to highlight mechanical movement details.

Mechanical timepieces require periodic servicing by a specialist horologist every three to five years to replace degraded lubricants. To preserve the movement and casing, keep the item in a dry, temperature-controlled environment away from high magnetic fields.
