Brief Description:

This is already strong. I’d make it slightly more polished and archaeological in tone, and change “hand-carved” because pottery bowls of this type would more accurately be described as hand-crafted/formed, with incised or tooled decoration if applicable.

Brief Description:

This is a rare and superb pair of original ancient Chinese red pottery bowls dating to the Han Dynasty period (206 BC–220 AD).

Each magnificent bowl has been individually hand-crafted in rich reddish terracotta, with attractive concentric detailing and wonderful surface characteristics acquired during their remarkable survival of approximately 1,800–2,200 years.

Both pieces retain areas of calcification, mineral encrustation and ancient soil deposits, giving them the unmistakable appearance and character associated with excavated archaeological pottery.

One of the bowls displays an old repair, clearly visible within the accompanying images. In our opinion, this certainly does not detract from the pair; rather, it contributes enormously to their charm, character and sense of antiquity.

Considering their extraordinary age, the survival of these two bowls as a matching pair is particularly impressive.

A fascinating and highly decorative pair of ancient Chinese Han Dynasty artefacts that would make a wonderful addition to any collection of early Chinese ceramics, archaeology or Asian antiquities.
