Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A settle bench is a high-backed wooden seat developed in Western Europe, constructed from timber such as oak, designed to provide seating while shielding occupants from cold draughts in entrance halls or living spaces.

Settles from this period were crafted from solid oak using mortise and tenon joinery fixed with wooden dowel pegs. The backrests feature fielded or recessed panels, supported by turned front legs and horizontal stretchers for structural stability.

Genuine period settles display hand-planed surface textures, slightly irregular peg construction, and natural wear patterns along the foot stretchers. The timber exhibits a deep oxidised colour and natural patination built up over centuries.

An oak settle serves as a functional focal point in a hallway, boot room, or dining area. Placing the dark timber against light neutral backgrounds or introducing textured linen cushions balances historical wood joinery with contemporary decor.

Regular care involves dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the wood finish. Position the settle away from direct heat sources to prevent the solid timber from drying or cracking.
