First Period Worcester porcelain refers to items produced at the Worcester factory between 1751 and 1783, a period often associated with founder Dr John Wall. Production during this era included soft-paste body ceramics decorated with oriental-inspired patterns, blue-and-white transfer prints, and hand-painted polychrome enamels.

These pieces were crafted using a soft-paste porcelain body containing soaprock (steatite) sourced from Cornwall, which gave the material high resistance to thermal shock. Decoration was added using underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze polychrome enamels, and burnished gold leaf gilding.
