Quiet Street Antiques of Bath has dated this Early American Silver Cup to the 19th Century.
It is stamped: “BARTON” and “SILVER” flanking a central motif. 13.5cms high; 13cms wide (across the handles) and 8.5cms front-to-back. (NB: there are a couple of small shallow dents and a little mis-shaping of the edge of the lid, but no serious damage)

Limited research to date has indicated that this is likely to be by Charles E Barton who was co-founder of the renown firm of silversmiths, Reed & Barton, founded in Taunton, Massachusetts in 1824. In 1840 the output of this firm was marked “Reed & Barton” and it is likely that this piece pre-dates this.
