Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian mahogany bureau is a writing cabinet produced in Britain during the reign of the Georgian monarchs, typically spanning 1714 to 1830. Characterised by a slanted fall-front lid that opens to reveal a fitted writing interior with pigeonholes and drawers, it sits above a chest of drawers.

18th-century bureaux were predominantly constructed using dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany veneers over oak or pine carcass frames. Drawer linings were usually jointed with hand-cut dovetails, and hardware comprised cast brass drop handles, escutcheons, and iron locks.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display hand-sawn drawer construction, uneven hand-cut dovetail joints, and shrinkage marks on solid timber back panels. Look for cast brass hardware with original thread markings, steel screws with off-centre slots, and wear patterns consistent with age around the lopers and drawer runners.

A Georgian bureau serves as a functional focal point in a home office, living room, or hallway. Pair the rich mahogany tones with neutral walls, contemporary art, or minimal table lamps to create a balanced contrast between traditional craftsmanship and modern design.

Maintain the mahogany surface by dusting regularly with a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, veneer lifting, and finish fading.
