Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the nineteenth century, cast iron hall stands were functional entryway furniture pieces designed to hold coats, hats, walking sticks, and umbrellas, often incorporating mirror panels and drip trays.

These pieces were crafted by pouring molten iron into sand moulds, creating detailed scrollwork or foliage patterns, and typically featured removable drip trays and small mirror inserts.

Authentic examples feature sharp casting mould lines, substantial weight, diamond registration marks or foundry stamps cast into the iron, and natural surface wear consistent with age.

Place the stand in a foyer or hallway as a structural focal point, setting it against a simple background to highlight its ornate silhouette while retaining its practical storage function.

Dust regularly using a soft brush or microfibre cloth, avoid water-based cleaning solutions, and apply a thin layer of microcrystalline wax to protect the painted surface from oxidation.
