Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French toleware chandelier is a ceiling light fixture crafted from painted, lacquered, or gilded sheet metal, popularised in France during the 18th and 19th centuries. These fixtures frequently feature elaborate floral motifs, scrollwork, and delicate hand-painted or ceramic adornments.

Traditional floral chandeliers from this style are constructed using gilded or lacquered tole (sheet iron or steel), brass wirework, and delicate ceramic or porcelain flower heads. The central frame houses wiring concealed within metal tubing, supporting candle sleeves topped with electrical sockets.

Authentic vintage pieces typically show subtle hand-crafted details, such as hand-moulded ceramic petals, soldered wire leaves, and natural surface patination or light wear to the gilt finish. Older wiring, solid metal components, and slight irregularities in the floral elements further distinguish original period items from modern reproductions.

A French floral chandelier serves as an ideal statement focal point in a dining room, bedroom, or dressing area, pairing seamlessly with muted pastel walls, panelling, or minimalist modern furniture to create a balanced contrast. It can also enhance period properties when combined with gilt mirrors and botanical prints.

To clean a tole and ceramic light fixture, gently dust the metal leaves and ceramic flowers using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a clean artists paintbrush. Avoid using harsh chemical solvents or abrasive cleaners on gilded metal surfaces, and ensure the electricity supply is safely switched off before cleaning.
