Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Napkin rings became popular in European households during the early 19th century to identify individual linen napkins between laundering cycles. By the early 20th century, hallmarked sterling silver versions were standard luxury items for formal table settings.

British sterling silver napkin rings consist of 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. They were traditionally formed from sheet silver, soldered into a cylinder, and finished with chased or cast decorative borders.

Authentic pieces feature official British assay office hallmarks, including the lion passant for sterling purity, a town mark, a date letter, and a makers mark. George V era silver strictly dates between 1910 and 1936, reflecting period-specific date codes.

Incorporate antique silver napkin rings into contemporary table arrangements by pairing them with crisp white linen or natural textured napkins. They add classic metallic lustre to minimal wooden tables or modern formal dinner settings.

Clean silver napkin rings using a soft cotton cloth and specialised, non-abrasive silver polish to remove tarnish. Avoid washing them in automatic dishwashers and store them in tarnish-resistant cloth bags away from direct humidity.
