Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Howard & Sons sofas are distinguished by their deep seat proportions, low scrolled arms, feather-filled cushions, and internal coil-spring construction. Manufactured in London during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these pieces are widely recognised for exceptional ergonomic comfort and refined upholstery techniques.

Traditional construction relies on hardwood frames, usually beech or oak, fitted with hand-laced steel coil springs, natural hessian, and horsehair padding. Down and feather fills are utilised for loose seat cushions, while turned or tapered wooden legs are fitted with stamped brass castors.

Authenticity is commonly verified through makers marks, such as stamped serial numbers or manufacturer names on the rear leg brass castors. Additionally, original pieces often feature printed monogram canvas lining beneath the cushions or branded fabric dust covers on the underside of the frame.

A classic patterned sofa acts as a central focal point when paired with modern minimalist side tables, architectural lighting, and neutral wall tones. Layering contemporary wool throws or pairing the piece alongside sleek modern art creates a balanced contrast between historical craft and modern design.

Upholstery should be lightly vacuumed using a soft brush attachment to remove loose dust without abrading textile fibres. Loose feather cushions require regular plumping and rotation to retain shape, while wooden legs and brass castors can be cleaned with a damp cloth and polished with microcrystalline wax.
