Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Eighteenth-century book sets were typically bound in calfskin or sheepskin, featuring gold leaf embellishments, raised spine bands, and marbled endpapers. Printed using letterpress technology, these classical sets were prized additions to private libraries during the Georgian era.

Binders utilised tanned animal hidesmost commonly calfskin, morocco goat leather, or sheepskinstretched over thick paperboards. Spines were reinforced with vegetable-tanned cord to create distinctive raised bands, with titles stamped in gold foil onto leather labels.

Authentic 18th-century volumes feature hand-laid rag paper, often displaying visible wire lines and watermarks, alongside irregular typography from manual metal typesetting. The bindings typically display age-appropriate leather craquelure, authentic oxidisation, and hand-stitched headbands.

Antique leather volumes add texture and historical weight to modern interiors when displayed on bookshelves, mantelpieces, or coffee tables. Stacking books horizontally or grouping them using heavy bookends creates visual interest within minimalist or traditional design schemes.

Store leather-bound books in a climate-controlled environment away from direct sunlight and heat sources, which cause leather to dry out and crack. Handle bindings with clean, dry hands, avoid tight packing on shelves, and consult a professional conservator prior to applying treatments.
