Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An envelope games table is a compact table featuring four triangular hinged leaves that unfold outwards to reveal a felt or baize playing surface. Popularised in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, these tables fold closed into a square top for dual use as an occasional table.

Tables from this period were commonly constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or satinwood, often decorated with brass inlay, fluted legs, and brass accents. The interior gaming surface typically features wool baize.

Authentic period examples feature hand-fitted brass hinges, precise joinery on the rotating top mechanism, and dovetail joints inside the counter drawers. Age-appropriate oxidisation on the brass mounts and wear on the leg terminals also indicate authenticity.

When closed, the table functions as an occasional side table in a sitting room, library, or hallway, providing a flat surface for lamps or decorative objects. It can be rotated and opened to create an active gaming setup for cards or chess when entertaining.

Maintain the wood finish by dusting regularly with a microfibre cloth and applying clear beeswax along the grain. Clean brass mounts gently using a dry cloth without abrasive chemicals to avoid stripping the natural patina or damaging adjacent timber.
