Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in France between 1814 and 1830, Restoration period decorative objects bridge classical Empire symmetry and softer early 19th-century motifs. Works from this era frequently combine patinated or gilded bronze with coloured marbles, featuring restrained classical mouldings, palmettes, and foliate casting.

These pieces were crafted using lost-wax or sand casting for the detailed bronze components, which were then hand-chased and patinated. The decorative stone elements, such as marble columns or plinths, were turned on lathes and assembled over a central iron internal rod that secured the base to the upper branching sconces.

Authentic period examples exhibit crisp hand-chased detailing, hand-cut screw threads on internal fittings, and considerable weight due to solid bronze and stone construction. Later reproductions often display modern machine threads, lighter alloy castings, or synthetic marble substitutes.

Place a pair symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, dining table, or sideboard to establish balance and structure. The deep bronze patina and natural stone tones complement both traditional wood panelling and contemporary neutral painted backdrops.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth or soft bristles to clean intricate areas. Avoid harsh chemical polishes or water on patinated bronze to protect the historic surface layer, and clean marble sections only with neutral, stone-safe cleaners to prevent acid etching.
