Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the 16th century during the Tudor and Elizabethan eras, a court cupboard is a two-tiered wooden cabinet designed to display valuable silverware and store household linens or foodstuffs. The term court derives from the French word for short, referring to its lower height compared to tall standing armoires. During the late 19th century, cabinetmakers revived these historic forms to complement Victorian interiors.

Traditional court cupboards were constructed primarily from solid oak, utilizing mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs. Decorative elements included hand-carved friezes, fielded door panels, and turned cup-and-cover supports, often finished with dark wax polish to emphasize the wood grain.

19th-century revival pieces feature machine-assisted joinery alongside hand-finishing, maker stamps or metal trade labels from renowned firms, and uniform drawer linings. Authentic examples display natural age-related wear, hand-turned bulbous columns, and deeply carved geometric or floral motifs consistent with historic patterns.

Position the piece as an anchor in a dining room, hallway, or living space against neutral wall tones like cream or muted green to contrast the dark timber. Style the flat upper surfaces with simple ceramics or contemporary lamps to balance the elaborate carved detailing.

Dust regularly using a dry, lint-free microfibre cloth along the grain of the wood. Apply a natural beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the timber and prevent drying, avoiding spray cleaners or harsh chemical polish that can strip the original finish.
