Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Produced between 1868 and 1912, Meiji period metalwork is characterised by advanced casting techniques, intricate relief carving, and mixed-metal inlay. Items created during this era frequently combined traditional Japanese motifs with functional Western adaptations for the export market.

These lamps typically feature cast bronze or brass bodies decorated with patinated finishes, high-relief chasing, and gilding. Burner assemblies and collar fittings were commonly constructed from spun brass or imported European lighting mechanisms.

Authentic pieces exhibit heavy hand-cast bronze weight, detailed hand-chased openwork or relief details, and natural age-related patination. Look for crisp casting around decorative motifs such as dragons, geometric fretwork, and character marks or foundry stamps.

An antique bronze oil lamp works as a sculptural accent on a sideboard, desk, or mantelpiece. It pairs well with dark wood surfaces, leather accents, and contemporary stone finishes to add historical contrast to modern spaces.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or natural bristle brush to clear intricate openwork. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes, as these can strip original surface patination and gilding.
