Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian silver prayer book holder is a decorative metal case designed to enclose small devotional books or hymnals. Popular during the late nineteenth century, these accessories were often designed with chain attachments to be suspended from a belt or chatelaine.

These items were predominantly crafted from sterling silver using silversmithing techniques such as engine-turning, hand engraving, and die-stamping. Details such as vertical reeding, cartouches, and monograms were routinely applied to the exterior metalwork.

Authentic British pieces bear official silver hallmarks indicating the purity mark (such as the lion passant for sterling), the assay office mark, a date letter, and a makers mark. Examining these stamped hallmarks provides precise verification of the maker and year of manufacture.

Small silver curiosities can be displayed on an office desk alongside leather stationery, arranged within a glazed cabinet, or styled atop a stack of books on a library shelf to introduce historical metalwork into contemporary interiors.

Silver should be cleaned gently using a soft, non-abrasive cotton cloth specifically designed for silver care. To prevent unnecessary tarnishing and oxidisation, store the metal in a dry environment away from high humidity and direct sunlight.
