In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Treen refers to small, functional decorative items crafted entirely from wood. A treen pomander or lidded cup from the Georgian era was typically used to hold dried herbs, spices, or aromatic compounds to scent a room or clothing.

These pieces were predominantly hand-turned on a lathe using dense hardwoods like fruitwood, boxwood, or lignum vitae. Craftsmanship often featured hand-carved gadrooning, pierced fretwork, and carved loose ring handles produced from fitted timber components.

Authentic early 19th-century treen displays natural shrinkage marks, subtle irregularities from hand-turning, and a deep patina built up through centuries of handling and waxing. Modern reproductions often exhibit uniform machine lathe marks, synthetic lacquers, or light interior wood without historical ageing.

An antique wooden pomander serves as a sophisticated accent piece when placed on a library desk, bookshelf, or sideboard alongside glass and brass decorative items. Its rich wood tones provide tactile warmth and historical texture in modern minimalist or traditional settings.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and high humidity to prevent timber splitting or warping. Dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a thin layer of high-quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood and maintain its patina.
