Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Treen refers to small domestic objects made entirely from wood, produced prior to the widespread manufacture of metal, glass, and plastic alternatives. Staved tobacco jars were constructed using interlocking wooden slats, designed to keep loose tobacco contained and protected from moisture.

Craftsmen used local hardwoods such as yew, walnut, fruitwood, boxwood, and oak. Staved construction involved fitting tapered wooden strips vertically, which were then turned on a lathe to achieve smooth contours and geometric patterns.

Authentic pieces display signs of hand-lathe turning, natural shrinkage along the wood grain, shrinkage gaps between staves, and a warm aged patina. Lids and bases often show subtle irregularities from hand-tooling rather than modern machine precision.

An antique treen jar functions as a rich tactile accent on a gentlemans library desk, bookshelf, or fireplace mantelpiece. Pairing it with stone, leather, or metallic objects highlights the contrasting grain of the turned wood.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the woods lustre. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent timber warping or cracking.
