Fabulous Victorian Ruby & Old Mine-Cut Diamond Ring

A gorgeous late Victorian ruby and old mine-cut diamond five-stone ring, beautifully handcrafted in 18 carat yellow gold and dating to circa 1890.

The ring features a wonderfully balanced alternating arrangement of three sparkling old mine-cut diamonds and two vivid red rubies. At the centre is an approximately 4mm old mine-cut diamond, flanked by two beautifully coloured rubies and a further old mine-cut diamond at either end.

The three antique diamonds have an estimated combined weight of approximately 0.65 carat, with an approximate H colour and SI clarity. Their individual, softly faceted old cuts produce the distinctive lively sparkle so desirable in Victorian jewellery.

The two rubies measure approximately 4 x 3.5mm each and display a rich bright red colour with attractive pink-purple undertones. Their saturated colour provides a striking contrast against the white diamonds and warm 18ct yellow gold.

Particularly appealing is the beautifully preserved Victorian setting. The gemstones sit above an intricate pierced scroll gallery, with further scrolling decoration extending into the shoulders. The side photographs reveal just how much craftsmanship went into a part of the ring that is barely visible when worn.

Despite its elaborate construction, the ring remains graceful on the hand. The five gemstones spread elegantly across the finger and provide an excellent balance of colour and sparkle.

A particularly fine and highly wearable Victorian jewel, equally appealing as a collector's piece, dress ring or romantic and distinctive antique engagement ring.
