Ritas Bazaar has dated this Silver Overlay Vanity Set to the 1900s.
Gorham produced luxury coloured glass with elaborate silver decoration around the turn of the twentieth century, including pieces made from “gold-ruby” glass blanks sourced from Bohemia for commissions for European retailers. The two Laugharne pieces comprise a spherical scent bottle with its original tall spire stopper and a cylindrical vase. Both are hand-blown in deep mottled ruby glass with hallmarked sterling silver overlay. The scent bottle is decorated with flowering branches, while the vase carries the workshop’s Wild Rose design. Both Laugharne pieces retain their original circular paper labels reading “Hand Made by Laugharne”, complete with the workshop’s historic landline telephone number.

Despite their different origins and dates, the three pieces work exceptionally well together. Their rich ruby glass and contrasting silver decoration create a coherent and highly decorative vanity ensemble while preserving the individual character of each maker.
