Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A gilt bronze mounted porcelain centrepiece is a decorative vessel that combines fine ceramics with gilded cast metal framework, often created in 18th and 19th-century Europe. These items were designed to serve as focal decorative objects on dining tables, sideboards, and mantlepieces during formal entertaining.

The core vessel is produced from hard-paste or soft-paste porcelain, glazed, and fired at high temperatures. The bronze components are separately cast using the lost-wax or sand-casting method, chased by hand to add detail, finished with mercury gilding or electroplating, and attached using threaded rods or custom collars.

Authentic pieces feature finely detailed chasing on the metalwork, signs of natural age-related oxidisation in crevices, and precise fitted joints between the metal mounts and ceramic body. Maker marks on the underside of the porcelain or stamped signatures on the bronze castings often assist in establishing origin.

These decorative bowls are typically positioned as central accents on dining tables, console tables, or sideboards. They can be left unfilled to highlight the interior porcelain glaze or used to display dry decorative arrangements.

Dust the item regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or natural bristle brush. Avoid chemical cleaners, abrasive polishes, and immersion in water, as moisture can compromise internal fixings and harsh chemicals can damage original gilding and glazes.
