Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the late 19th-century Aesthetic Movement, Victorian bamboo furniture was influenced by East Asian design traditions. Cabinetmakers combined imported or domestic bamboo poles with lacquered panels, matting, or embossed surfaces to produce lightweight accent furniture.

These tables were constructed using natural bamboo stalks, often heat-treated or scorched to create a speckled tortoiseshell effect. Tops were commonly fitted with lacquered wood, pine framing, woven cane, or embossed leather panels.

Authentic period bamboo furniture features joinery secured with small dowels or brass pins, showing natural wood grain variations and genuine surface patination. Modern reproductions frequently utilise synthetic adhesives, uniform machine-cut cane, or modern screws.

Victorian bamboo tables serve effectively as sofa side tables, bedside stands, or plant displays in modern spaces. Combining them with contemporary soft furnishings creates a balanced contrast between organic textures and clean lines.

Position bamboo furniture away from central heating radiators and direct sunlight to prevent splitting. Clean surfaces gently using a soft microfibre cloth or dry brush, and apply a light coat of natural beeswax polish annually to preserve the finish.
