Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A bachelor chest is a low, compact chest of drawers typically featuring a fold-over top or pull-out brushing slide designed for pressing clothing or writing. Originating in the late 17th and early 18th centuries, these functional pieces were designed primarily for gentlemens dressing rooms and smaller living quarters.

Early Georgian chests were constructed primarily from native timbers such as walnut, red walnut, and early mahogany, often with softwoods like pine or oak used for secondary drawer linings. The hardware usually comprised cast brass drop-ring handles, keyhole escutcheons, and hand-forged iron locks.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display period joinery, including hand-cut dovetails on drawer joints, irregular hand-sawn backboards, and natural timber shrinkage across the grain. Original brass drop handles, historic steel or iron locks, and an unpolished, aged patina further confirm period authenticity.

Position a Georgian bachelor chest in a hallway, bedroom, or living area as an accent piece, utilizing the flat surface for modern lighting or curated decorative objects. The dark, rich timber tones provide a grounded contrast against light walls and contemporary textiles.

Maintain walnut furniture by regularly dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the wood finish. Position the piece away from direct sunlight, radiators, and fluctuating humidity to prevent timber movement or cracking.
