Spectacular Art Deco Uranium Glass Vase by Karl Palda, C1930

1920 - 1940
For Sale by Art Deco World
Description

Originating from Czech Republic this Art Deco vase not has kerb side appeal with it's very distinctive turquoise colouring with jet black enamel accents but is a great size standing just over 24 cm. Condition is excellent, I couldn't find any damage or flaws to note. Typical of Palda glass, this vase has the iconic reverse etched stylized floral accents. The enamel is bright and crisp and free from any oxidation often found of enamel from the 30's. A fabulous vase that won't disappoint.

The most common color of uranium glass is pale yellowish-green, which in the 1930s led to the nickname "Vaseline glass" based on a perceived resemblance to the appearance (which was a yellow-green colour) of Vaseline brand petroleum jelly as formulated and commercially sold at that time. This vase definitely won't disappoint, we defy the new owner not to fall in love it.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco Bohemian glass is characterised by bold geometric forms, sharp faceted cuts, and high-contrast decorative enamelling introduced during the 1920s and 1930s.

Uranium glass is glass that has had uranium oxide added to a melt before shaping to achieve a distinct yellow or green colouration. It fluoresces bright green under ultraviolet light due to the chemical composition of the additive.

Authentic pieces from this period typically feature distinct angular geometries, acid-etched or geometric black and clear enamel panel motifs, heavy lead glass weight, and precise hand-cut faceted edges.

Display the vase as a standalone statement piece on a sideboard, shelf, or mantelpiece where natural light can highlight its translucence and geometric lines.

Hand wash gently using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, avoiding abrasive sponges or harsh chemical cleaners that could damage surface enamel detailing.
