The English Interior has dated this French Hepplewhite Silk Armchair to the 17th Century.
It has wonderfully fine rope work carvings around the seat back.

Although French in appearance, the lighter drawing of this Louis XV form together with its overstuffed cartouche back are uniquely English design attributes.
This chair is upholstered in vintage Colefax and Fowler silk with embroidered scrolling oak branches across a tomato striped ground.
Please see our other listing for a painted 18th century chair with identical upholstery (final image)
