Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Medici lions are paired sculptural representations of lions resting one paw on a sphere, originally carved in marble during the 16th century for the Villa Medici in Rome. They served as heraldic symbols of power and civic prestige, becoming widely reproduced across Europe during the 18th and 19th centuries.

During the 19th century, Medici lions were commonly executed in carved limestone, marble, or composition cast stone. Cast stone allowed for distinct anatomical detailing while enabling natural surface weathering and organic patination over time.

Authentic period pieces display gradual surface wear, lichen growth, and layered lime wash or paint remnants. Mould seams from traditional multi-piece casting methods and hand-chiseled finishing details around the mane and base further indicate 19th-century manufacture.

Placing a pair of Medici lions alongside an entryway, atop a console table, or on a fireplace hearth introduces classical symmetry and architectural grounding. Their tactile, aged surfaces provide contrast against modern clean lines and minimal backdrops.

Maintenance requires avoiding high-pressure water sprays and abrasive chemicals that strip historic surface patination or erode porous stone. Dusting with a soft bristle brush and sheltering pieces during severe frost cycles helps prevent structural spalling.
