Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pique jewellery refers to tortoiseshell or horn inlaid with precious metals such as gold and silver, crafted prominently during the 19th century. Popularised during the Victorian era, this technique was frequently used to create intricate floral patterns and religious items like cross pendants.

Traditional pique pendants were formed from organic materials, predominantly hawksbill sea turtle shell or horn, which were heated to soften before setting gold and silver wires or pique dots into the surface. Some designs also feature central gemstones or onyx cabochons.

Authentic Victorian pique features metal inlay that is pressed flush with or slightly recessed into the organic base material rather than glued on top. Under magnification, hand-cut metallic elements and natural grain variations within the tortoiseshell base should be visible.

An antique pique cross pendant can be suspended from a modern gold chain or dark velvet ribbon to serve as a focal statement piece. It pairs effectively with high-neck blouses, tailored blazers, or dark monochrome knitwear.

Pique jewellery should be stored in a dry, temperature-regulated environment away from direct sunlight and moisture to prevent warping of the organic base. Clean gently with a dry microfibre cloth and avoid contact with liquids, perfumes, or harsh chemicals.
