In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pigeon racing grew in popularity across Britain during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Owners frequently commissioned local artisans or folk painters to create portraits of their champion birds, often incorporating details of race wins and lineage directly onto the canvas or board.

These artworks were predominantly executed in oil paint applied to wooden panels, artist board, or canvas. They were typically framed in substantial moulded timber frames, such as oak or pine, often protected behind glass.

Authentic period pieces usually feature naive or stylized proportions, profile views of the bird, and painted inscriptions detailing the pigeons name, club, or racing achievements. Evidence of age includes natural surface craquelure and appropriate wear to the timber framing.

Pairing sporting portraits on a dark accent wall or within a curated gallery wall creates an engaging focal point. They integrate effectively into traditional studies, hallways, or above timber sideboards.

Keep paintings away from direct sunlight, extreme humidity, and heat sources to prevent warping or paint flaking. Dust the frames gently with a soft microfibre cloth and avoid using chemical solvents on the painted surface.
