Description

A Flight Barr & Barr Worcester Porcelain Basket decorated by Thomas Baxter c.1815 - 1819. Of lobed oval form with gilt gadrooned rim, loop handle with classical mask head at the centre, finely painted with a scene of 'Spring' besides a Cherub with a Lyre, garlands of flowers and butterflies, all reserved on a green ground. The underside has the quotation 'Spring' in Baxter's distinctive hand, ''Come gentle Spring, etherial mildness come'' by James Thomson. 

Printed and impressed marks to the reverse.

Condition: Section to the underside of the basket showing signs of old restoration about 7cm wide.

Literature: Charles Dawson - Worcester Flight & Barr Porcelain - Pages 196-197 for a plaque decorated by Thomas Baxter and inscribed in his distinctive hand.
