Exquisite Mahogany and Oak, Barley Twist No End Super-king Bed

This stunning bed was crafted using antique barley twist posts and uprights which have a fab history behind them… The uprights and posts were hidden away for many years; just as the first world war was brewing, a factory in France sequestered away lots and lots of their frames, posts and uprights, hidden behind a false wall to keep them safe from the incoming risk of damage or theft. Around 30 years ago they were discovered, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on many of them.

These unused, but antique twists and posts have finally been used for their intended purpose and our fabulous woodworker and lead finisher Billie, has expertly and beautifully hand crafted them into this stunning super king-sized barley twist bed.

The barley twist posts are antique mahogany, and the barley twist uprights are antique Oak. The rest of the bed has been made using oak to replicate the French antique style of bed they likely would have been used for.

Beautifully stained, shellacked / French polished, this bed has been finished just as beautifully as it has been made. It feels very special to be able to use these antique components for their intended purpose.

Whole bed has been crafted, checked and sympathetically restored and crafted to ensure solid, sturdy construction and good assembly.

As an alternative to the wood slats, we can supply mini box bases for superior mattress support and to raise the get into bed height. The bed is photographed on a 2” base with our zip and linked Bordeaux mattresses. We can supply hand-made mattresses in all comfort choices and also with zip and link connections if needed – these join two mattresses together to create a larger size, perfect for those who want the grandeur of a larger bed, but have to navigate tight stairwells or corridors etc.
