Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Neoclassical porcelain urns of the 19th century draw inspiration from classical Greek and Roman pottery forms. Key characteristics include symmetrical shapes, pedestal foot bases, fluted moulding, twin side handles, and gilded scroll or anthemion friezes.

These vessels were typically formed from hard-paste porcelain or fine bone china, finished with a white lead-based glaze. Gilding was applied using mercury amalgams or liquid gold solutions before being fired and burnished to achieve a high-shine metal finish.

Authentic pieces generally display subtle irregularities in hand-applied gilding, natural surface wear on handling points, and distinct pedestal assembly seams beneath the foot. Inspection under magnification often reveals microscopic wear consistent with age rather than uniform artificial distress.

A Neoclassical porcelain urn works well positioned centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard. It can be displayed as a standalone decorative object or paired with contemporary artwork to create visual contrast in a modern space.

Clean gilt porcelain gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush to remove dust. Avoid using abrasive sponges, chemical polishes, or submerging the vessel in water, as moisture and friction can strip fragile surface gilding.
