Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Historically utilised in country house larders, kitchens, and sculleries, game hook racks were designed to suspend prepared game, fowl, and meats off the ground for air circulation and aging. Over time, these functional timber rails evolved into versatile utilitarian fittings across domestic and agricultural spaces.

Authentic examples feature dense solid timber rails, such as pine or oak, fitted with hand-forged wrought iron hooks. The ironwork is typically secured through the timber with hand-beaten rivets, square-headed nails, or diamond-shaped backplates.

Original pieces exhibit irregular, hand-hammered ironwork showing tool marks, natural oxidisation, and slight variations between individual hooks. Additionally, the timber background displays genuine age-related wear, hand-planed surfaces, and original mounting loops or iron fixing holes.

In modern interiors, these long timber rails serve as functional coat racks in entryways, utensil displays in country kitchens, or towel hanging rails in bathrooms. Placing them above a hallway bench or sideboard adds warm textural contrast and historical character.

Maintain the timber rail by dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and periodically applying natural beeswax polish to protect the wood grain. To preserve hand-forged ironwork, clean off dirt gently and apply a thin layer of microcrystalline wax or mineral oil to prevent active rust without stripping the natural patina.
