Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A cricket table is a traditional three-legged occasional table, predominantly dating from the 17th and 18th centuries in Britain and Ireland. The three-legged construction was specifically designed to ensure stability on uneven stone, brick, or earthen floors in country dwellings.

These tables were typically crafted from solid native hardwoods such as oak, elm, or fruitwood using peg joinery and hand-planed timbers. They generally feature turned or tapered legs, simple lower stretchers, and circular or trefoil plank tops secured with wooden dowels.

Authentic 18th-century examples show evidence of hand-tooling, such as hand-sawn marks or plane traces, alongside irregular wear patterns on the feet and lower stretchers. Look for hand-cut wooden joinery pegs, natural timber shrinkage along the grain, and genuine historical surface patination.

Owing to its compact footprint and stable tripod structure, a cricket table serves as a functional side table beside an armchair, an occasional table in a reading nook, or a plant display stand. Its organic timber character adds texture and warmth to contemporary settings.

Dust the surface regularly using a soft, dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice per year to nourish the timber. Position the table away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting.
