Elegantly proportioned and richly decorated, each vase is surmounted by a charming, hand-modelled parrot finial, with the birds forming wonderfully matched lids that add both character and sophistication to the pair.
The baluster-shaped bodies are profusely hand-painted with exuberant floral sprays, scrolling foliage and Rococo-inspired ornamentation in a vibrant palette of cobalt blue, emerald green, golden yellow, manganese and iron red, all beautifully highlighted against a creamy white tin-glazed ground. The colourful decoration is further enhanced by finely moulded relief scrollwork, demonstrating the exceptional craftsmanship of the period.
Inspired by the celebrated ceramics of Rouen, these highly decorative vases perfectly embody the exuberance and elegance of the French Country House style. Both vases are offered in beautiful original condition, commensurate with their late 19th-century age. They retain their superb hand-painted decoration and display wonderfully. There are a few small surface chips, together with an old restoration where one of the parrot finials has been reattached. These minor age-related imperfections are reflected in the price and are mentioned purely for complete accuracy, having little impact on the overall presentation of this highly decorative and increasingly scarce pair.
