We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George I chest on stand is an 18th-century piece of case furniture featuring an upper chest of drawers mounted onto a raised stand. Originating in the early 1700s, these designs combined decorative walnut veneers with functional vertical storage.

These pieces were typically constructed with a softwood or oak carcass veneered in figured walnut, burr walnut, or crossbanded feather borders. Hardware was made from cast brass, while the legs were crafted from solid turned timber.

Authentic period examples display hand-dovetailed drawer joints, oak-lined drawer interiors, natural hand-cut wood shrinkage, and period-correct brass escutcheons. The presence of barley-twist turnings or early cabriole legs joined by shaped stretchers is also characteristic.

Position the piece against a plain or textured neutral wall to highlight the warm wood grain and silhouette. Pair it with modern artwork or minimal tabletop lighting to create contrast between historic craftsmanship and contemporary decor.

Keep the wood away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking and fading of the veneer. Dust regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to protect the original finish.
