Antique 2.65 Carat Tsavorite Solitaire Ring, Dated 1919

1900 - 1920
Description

A wonderful 18k yellow gold dress ring. The ring is centred by a substantial 2.65ct (approx.) natural tsavorite displaying a vivid emerald-green colour. Delicate hand-engraved scrolling shoulders frame the gemstone beautifully, and lead to a nicely weighty D-shaped shank.

Although the mount dates from 1919, the tsavorite (a gem not discovered until the 1960s) is a later replacement creating a marriage between an authentic handmade ring from the early 20th century, with one of the most sought after gemstones from the early 21st century.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Solitaire rings from the late Edwardian and early post-war era often feature a single central gemstone set in gold or platinum with detailed shoulder engravings. These designs focus on highlighting the central stone while incorporating delicate scrollwork or claw settings.

Antique solitaire rings were traditionally crafted using high-karat yellow gold, rose gold, or platinum. Central gemstones such as garnets, sapphires, or emeralds were secured using hand-cut claw or bezel settings.

Authentic early 20th-century rings typically feature period hallmarks indicating the gold purity, makers mark, and date letter stamped on the inner band. Additionally, hand-engraved motifs and hand-cut gemstone facets distinguish genuine pieces from modern reproductions.

An antique solitaire ring can be worn as a standalone statement piece on the index or ring finger, or stacked alongside slim contemporary gold bands. Mixing modern minimalist jewellery with carved antique pieces creates a balanced visual contrast.

Clean the ring using warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove dust around the setting. Avoid exposing the gemstone to harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners, and store the piece in a fabric-lined box to prevent scratches.
