Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Legal wigs became standard court attire in the late seventeenth century, adopted to maintain formality and anonymity within judicial proceedings. Though their use has declined in modern courts, traditional horsehair wigs remain symbolic of legal tradition.

Authentic legal wigs were handmade primarily using woven horsehair attached to a net base. The accompanying carrying cases were typically constructed from lightweight tin or sheet metal, finished with dark paint or lacquered japanning and custom gold lettering.

Authentic period pieces feature hand-woven horsehair construction, original makers labels inside the crown, and fitted metal stands. Accompanying metal tins often display maker marks from historic legal outfitters and named gilding of the original owner.

Interior designers frequently use historical legal artefacts as conversation pieces in home offices, studies, and library shelves. Displayed on a desk or console, the dark metal case and textural wig fit well within classic or dark academia aesthetics.

Keep the horsehair wig on its internal wire stand inside a dry, temperature-controlled environment away from direct sunlight. Metal cases should be gently dusted with a soft, dry microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemicals that could lift historic paint or gilding.
