Imari porcelain, originating from the Arita region in Japan, is characterised by its distinctive underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red decoration with gilt accents. Late 19th-century Meiji period export pieces were crafted for Western markets, frequently featuring elaborate panels with floral, avian, or landscape motifs.

These pieces were fashioned from dense kaolin clay, fired at high temperatures to produce hard-paste porcelain.
