We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Lawn croquet gained immense popularity in Great Britain during the late Victorian and Edwardian eras as a fashionable outdoor pastime for private estates. Major sporting goods manufacturers such as Slazenger produced standardized boxed sets containing mallets, balls, hoops, and winning pegs for competitive tournament and leisure play.

Traditional sets were crafted using durable hardwoods such as ash or boxwood for the mallets and balls, while storage cases were typically constructed from pine with metal ironmongery. Hoops were fashioned from cast or forged iron, often painted white for visibility on the grass.

Authentic pieces feature original lithographed paper labels affixed to the interior lid of the pine box, often bearing trade names like Thors Croquet along with maker marks. Hardwood mallets and pegs often retain stamped branding, original colour bandings, and period iron hoops.

An antique game chest functions well displayed open on a low sideboard, within a sunroom, or set in an entry hallway. Arranging the colourful mallets and balls inside the wooden crate creates a sculptural focal point that complements rustic or traditional interior schemes.

Store the set in a dry, climate-controlled environment away from direct heat and moisture to prevent the wood from warping or cracking. Apply clear natural beeswax to the timber box and mallets to nourish the wood while avoiding liquid cleaners on original paper maker labels.
