Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised in the 19th century, these caskets are decorative container vessels crafted from blown or moulded glass mounted in gilt-bronze or brass frames known as ormolu. They were traditionally designed to sit on dressing tables to hold small personal items such as rings, pins, or delicate jewellery.

These pieces typically combine cobalt-tinted lead glass with cast gilt-bronze or brass mounts, hinges, and feet. The glass body often features hand-painted enamel decoration or acid-etched details, while the metal rim provides structural support and secure closure.

Authentic period caskets display natural wear to the gilding, hand-fitted hinge mechanisms, and pontil marks on blown glass bases. The enamel detailing is hand-applied rather than modern transfer-printed, and metal mounts show genuine age-related patination or oxidisation.

Position the casket on a bedside table, dressing table, or vanity top to hold small accessories while introducing saturated colour. It also functions well on a bookshelf or tray display where light highlights the rich blue glass.

Dust the glass and metal softly using a dry microfibre cloth or soft brush to avoid disturbing enamel detailing. Avoid aggressive chemical polishers or submerging the piece in water, as moisture can weaken vintage hinges and damage original gilding.
