Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Louis XVI style mounts feature neoclassical motifs inspired by classical antiquity, including acanthus leaves, laurel wreaths, ribbons, geometric borders, and symmetrical scrollwork. Popularised in late 18th-century France and revived in the late 19th century, these designs emphasise clean vertical lines and balanced proportions.

Ormolu mounts were traditionally cast from bronze using the lost-wax or sand-casting method. The bronze pieces were then hand-chased to refine detail and gilded using mercury amalgam gilding, leaving a durable metallic finish.

Authentic 19th-century fittings typically display heavy cast metal weight, crisp hand-chased surface details, and distinct mounting holes or threaded posts on the reverse. Natural age wear often appears near handling points, revealing darker bronze undertones where the gilt layer has thinned over time.

These decorative metal mounts can be reattached to period restoration projects or fitted onto bespoke modern cabinetry to create custom focal pieces. Alternatively, mounts are frequently mounted inside shallow shadow box frames or displayed on stands as standalone decorative metalwork objects.

Dust gilt bronze periodically using a soft bristle brush or a clean microfiber cloth. Avoid applying liquid polishes, abrasive creams, or chemical solvents, as these substances can strip the original gilding and damage the natural oxidisation.
