L.m.s. Stunning Fusee Railway Dial Wall Clock

19th century
Sold by Clockwise
Description

Clockwise is delighted to present to you another stunning and lovingly restored railway clock for your consideration, with many more railway clocks coming soon. This is only the second example of this maker and highly desirable style I have seen in two years. This fine eight day fusee chain-driven movement with anchor escapement and rectangular plates has shaped shoulders and cut-outs to the bottom plates, with turned pillars, as was typical in the 1870's. It has just been fully dismantled, restored and cleaned and as such benefits from my three year guarantee.

The original dial is written 'John Smith & Sons, Midland Clock Works, Queen St, Derby'. John Smith is still trading today and they are clockmakers of the highest calibre dating back to 1856.

The oak case has two side doors and a bottom door with working replacement lock and the stunning case has enjoyed a full refurbishment also and the correct brass L.M.S brass plaque is located to the right side of the clock. A polished bezel with sight ring and original and correct spade hands compliment the twelve inch dial beautifully and showcase this clock from circa 1870 as a rare and handsome piece of history with fewer examples of this genre available year on year.

The records show this clock as last being in use at Westhouses Station in Derby which was on the Midland main line and the last owner of this clock purchased it from Collectors Corner in Euston where disused railwayana was sold off by British Rail. This clock comes complete with pendulum and two keys

Clockwise specialises in longcase and bracket clocks and with clients from the world of business, film, sport, royalty and aristocracy - yet more than happy with traditional clients - Clockwise has an unrivalled reputation for excellence and superb service.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
