We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

First Period Worcester porcelain refers to ceramics produced at the Worcester factory between 1751 and 1783, during the tenure of founder Dr John Wall. This era is notable for its soapstone soft-paste porcelain formula, which resisted cracking when filled with boiling water, and its hand-painted decoration ranging from blue-and-white chinoiserie to vibrant polychrome florals.

18th-century Worcester ceramics utilized a soft-paste porcelain body modified with steatite (soapstone) sourced from Cornwall. The painted decoration relied on overglaze enamels and underglaze cobalt oxide, finished with a clear lead glaze.

Authentic First Period Worcester ceramics often feature a characteristic greenish or yellowish tone when held to light, due to the soapstone content. Inspection of factory marks such as the painted crescent, square mark, or workmans marks, alongside analysis of paint handling and wear patterns on the foot rim, helps confirm authenticity.

Antique porcelain cups can be styled inside glazed display cabinets, arranged on open library shelving, or positioned on a sideboard tray alongside contemporary decorative objects to create a curated contrast.

Antique porcelain should be cleaned gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive sponges, chemical solvents, or immersion in hot water, as temperature shocks and harsh friction can damage overglaze enamels and existing professional restorations.
