Description

A very sweet and rare small Worcester porcelain patty pan painted with The Peony pattern. Workman's mark to the underside, c.1765. 

It measures just 11.8cm (4 5/8") wide and 3.5cm (1 3/8") high.

In good condition: there has been a restored chip to the rim. No other damage, repair or restoration and minimal handling wear.

First Period Worcester porcelain, often referred to as the Dr Wall period, spans from the founding of the Worcester factory in 1751 until 1783. This era is renowned for producing high-quality soft-paste porcelain decorated with underglaze blue oriental patterns and detailed florals.

Early Worcester pieces were crafted using a soft-paste porcelain formula that incorporated soaprock (steatite) from Cornwall. This unique composition rendered the ceramics highly resistant to thermal shock, making them suitable for hot foods and baking dishes.
