Creamware is a light-coloured earthenware perfected in Staffordshire, England, during the mid-eighteenth century. Popularised by makers like Josiah Wedgwood, who refined the lead glaze to create a smooth cream tone, it was widely used for refined dinnerware and decorative pierced basketry.

Georgian creamware baskets were produced by press-moulding refined white clay into intricate patterns or hand-cutting reticulated lattice openings while the clay was green-hard, before firing and applying a clear lead glaze.
