We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the Edwardian era, button hooks were practical daily accessories used to pull buttons through the stiff fabric or leather of boots, gloves, and corsets. High-status vanity sets often included button hooks with decorated silver handles.

Antique button hooks typically feature a hollow or solid sterling silver handle join attached to a tempered steel shank. Steel was favoured for the functional hook portion due to its strength under tension, while the handle provided aesthetic ornament.

Authentic British pieces bear official silver hallmarks on the handle, including a makers mark, town mark, date letter, and the lion passant denoting sterling silver standard (925). The wear patterns should reflect light, authentic age around the steel join.

Small vanity antiques can be curated inside glass cloches, arranged across marble vanity trays, or styled alongside books on open shelving to add texture and historical interest to modern spaces.

Lightly buff the silver handle using a specialized silver polishing cloth, avoiding harsh liquid chemicals. Ensure the steel shaft remains dry to prevent rust and oxidisation, applying a thin coating of microcrystalline wax if necessary.
