The Chelsea Bijouterie Ltd has dated this Gold Cabochon Amethyst Ring to the 1960s.
The ring is set with an impressive oval cabochon amethyst measuring approximately 12.3mm by 9mm. The beautifully domed stone displays a rich, saturated purple colour, enlivened by flashes of violet and subtle blue as it catches the light.
Smoothly collet set, the amethyst is framed by a simple polished gold border and broad, gently tapering shoulders. The understated design allows the exceptional colour and softly rounded form of the gemstone to remain the focal point.
Measuring approximately 14.5mm across the top and rising 9mm above the finger, the ring has a bold yet beautifully balanced appearance. Its generous 7.8-gram weight gives it a pleasingly substantial feel, while its signet-inspired form makes it suitable for either a lady or gentleman.
The ring bears a complete Birmingham hallmark for 1966, together with the maker’s initials BCH. A wonderfully wearable example of mid-century British jewellery, it would make a distinctive statement ring or an especially thoughtful February birthstone gift.
