Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Twin-branch wall sconces developed as functional lighting fixtures during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries to amplify light output by reflecting candle illumination off polished backplates. By the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these classical forms were adapted for gas and electricity while maintaining traditional scrolling branch designs.

These lighting fixtures generally consist of a base metal structure, such as brass, copper, or nickel alloy, electroplated with a layer of fine silver. Construction involves cast metal components, shaped backplates, and hollow tubular arms engineered to conceal electrical wiring.

Authentic period examples often display subtle silver wear on elevated surfaces where the base metal becomes slightly visible, a characteristic known as bleeding. Examination of cast weight, hand-finished joints, historic wiring conversions, and maker stamps or serial numbers assists in identification.

Silver-plated sconces provide metallic contrast against dark or neutral wall tones in dining areas, corridors, and reception rooms. Installing them in pairs flanking artwork, mirrors, or architectural features provides symmetrical balance in both traditional and modern schemes.

Silver-plated fixtures should be dusted regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and cleaned sparingly with a non-abrasive silver polish to prevent removing the thin silver layer. Avoid harsh chemical sprays or damp cloths near electrical components.
